| The Bony Labyrinth |
The bony labyrinth is located within the inner ear and contains the membranous labyrinth, or functional sensory epithelium.
Parts of the bony labyrinth include the vestibule, semicircular canals, cochlea, vestibular aqueduct, and medial cochlear aqueduct. |

| Semicircular Canals |
The semicircular ducts arise from the utricle* in the posterior/superior vestibule and travel within the semicircular canals*. They oriented in orthogonal planes and sense rotational movement. |
The superior vestibular nerve (SVN) supplies the superior and lateral semicircular canals. The inferior vestibular nerve (IVN) supplies the posterior semicircular canal via the singular nerve. Both are branches of CN8. |
The superior vestibular nerve (CN8) leaves the posterior superior internal auditory canal (IAC) to supply the superior and lateral semicircular canals. |
 |
| The singular branch of the inferior vestibular nerve (CN 8) supplies the posterior semicircular canal. |
